A conceptual drawing of the Taiji Diagram-shaped artificial island
An artificial island, which is China’s first offshore artificial island approved by the State Council, will soon start construction in Xiamen Bay, according to the China Merchants Zhangzhou Development Zone.
With a total investment of 3 billion yuan ($ 439.2 million) and a planning area of 2.2 square kilometers, the island will be forged into a modern, leisure ecological resort.
Currently, the preparatory work of the project has been in place. It is estimated to take 3 years to complete the whole project, according to the Zhangzhou Development Zone.
Upon completion, the Taiji Diagram-shaped island will overlook Gulangyu Island across the sea and shine upon each other.
Xiamen Bay, located on the west side of the Taiwan Strait and spanning Fujian’s Xiamen and Zhangzhou city, is one of China’s major ports for cross-Straits trade between Taiwan and mainland China.
