On June 16th the Millennium Harbourview Hotel Xiamen warmly welcomed the Marc Pingry Productions during their heralded visit to Xiamen. On tour to visit Koxinga’s home in Nan‘an, they captured much interesting film for an upcoming National Geographic documentary about this famous Chinese hero.

Along the journey to uncover the complete story of Koxinga, the team visited Xiamen’s famous Gulangyu Islet whose ferry boat lies only a walking distance of the Millennium Hotel. On Gulangyu stands the well known statue of Koxinga. Locals say this statue of Xiamen’s heroic protector guards the bay, protecting Xiamen Island from any direct hits by the numerous yearly typhoons. Koxinga’s Well also tells the legend of his men’s feat in digging a well on Gulangyu Islet that ever since has brought forth sweet water.

Marc Pingry’s team went on to Quanzhou to continue the quest of further history for their documentary. The region’s local ship builders retold vivid recollections of the tales of Koxinga. Rare footage was taken at his homeland where he spent the majority of his life. Up high on a hill there, lies a giant statue of Koxinga mounted on horse, capturing his memory for ages.

The Millennium Harbourview Hotel Xiamen greatly values this opportunity for the promotion of Fujian’s treasured heritage and is pleased to have played the role in offering Xiamen’s finest hospitality to National Geographic’s representative team. Eager anticipation remains for the Koxinga documentary’s airing as well as a warm welcome to National Geographic for a future return.
