This award by members of the Hotel Star Rating Group truly is the greatest gift to the hotel in celebration of its 20th anniversary. In the past 20 years of hard work The Millennium Harbourview Hotel has overcome hardships step by step, resulting in today’s achievement and brilliance.

On June 22nd 2012, the Millennium Harbourview Hotel Xiamen will hold its grand anniversary ceremony along with the unveiling ceremony of its 5 Star Tourist Hotel Rating; Mr. Zhong Xing Guo, the deputy secretary of Xiamen Municipal Party Committee, Ms. Guo Gui Rong, The deputy Mayor of Xiamen Municipal Government, Mr Guo Hen Ming, the vice chairman of Fujian commission for economic & trade, Mr Huang Guo Bin, the Director General of Xiamen Tourism Bureau were formally invited to attend this ceremony. And we wish to take this opportunity to express our heartfelt gratitude for the support from both our customers and friends during the past 20 years. Looking back together with you all on our thoughts and concepts of the past 20 years, we now wish to present you our hotel’s new position, new aims, and new prospects as a recognized 5 Star Hotel.

During the reform period of China’s development, many patriotic Chinese returned to their motherland from overseas with determination to the country’s reconstruction. In 1984, with the strong support of the Xiamen Municipal Government, the Hong Leong International (Hong Kong) Company Limited collaborated with the Xiamen Tourism Group Cooperation to establish the joint-venture company Harbour View Hotel Company Limited. The construction of the hotel proceeded rapidly. Mr. Guo Fang Feng, the Founder of Hong Leong Group, decided to choose Qing Mu Shan as the hotel site. In 1985, the hotel pre-construction office appointed the City Development Company of Singapore to fully manage the hotel construction project. The groundbreaking ceremony was held on 31st January 1986, and the hotel building was completed at the end of 1991. The hotel opened up for initial service in January 1992, later opening fully to the public on June 5th. The hotel construction has an area of 34,000 square meters, stands 90 meters tall and provides 22 floors of guest accommodation.

The hotel was designed by internationally renowned architect Mr. Alfred Wong Kuang Guo of the Singapore Alfred Wong Partnership and the Chinese Architectural Institute. The hotel building embodies a representation of Singapore’s hospitality symbol, The Merlion, reflecting the hotel’s central interest in serving its clients. The building’s exterior is shaped like a sail to indicate the city’s coastal characteristics. The hotel is rated as one of the "Top Ten Architectural Achievements” in Fujian Province as well as in Xiamen City.

On January 1st 2008 the Millenium Harbourview Hotel Xiamen formally joined the Millenium & Copthorne Hotels and Resorts Group, becoming the group’s second hotel in China. To welcome the hotel’s 20th anniversary celebration and its awarding of 5 Star Tourist Hotel status, a group of some of the hotel’s most cherished frequent guests will be celebrating the hotel’s rise to 5 Star status on its 20th anniversary in an extremely special way; assembling in mid-June at Yu Zhu Feng in Qinghai Province, climbing to the 6178 metres above sea-level peak and putting up the Millennium Harbourview Hotel’s flag upon its pure, flawless snow – as a show of congratulations to the hotel’s 20 years of success, and a wish for the hotel’s continued success and even greater achievements after its rise to 5 Star Hotel status.
